When did you join Specialized Dentistry of New Jersey?

  • I joined SDNJ in September 2008.

What do you do at SDNJ?

  • I am a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA). A registered dental assistant undergoes a minimum of two years on the job training after the mandated course work required for certification.  When working with patients I capture necessary radiography, often I taken impressions or "molds" of teeth, prepare and insert temporary restorations, as well maintain infection control procedures. Additionally, I review patients' treatment plan with the patient and educate them on their conditions while answering any questions they may have. Danielle or I are typically the first people you will see when you are seated in the treatment room.

 Do you have specialized training?

  • Working with specialists like Dr. Courey and Dr. Zagami, has made me a specialist in my field as well.  At SDNJ, the patient is paramount! In order to exceed the expectations of our patients, I have received extensive, training in assisting with high level restorative dental & surgical procedures, advanced laboratory techniques, preparations, materials as well capturing 3-Dimensional digital radiography.

What is your favorite part of your job?

  • That is easy—it is the overall transformation of a patient, not only their physical appearance, but the overall change in their character.  I love seeing the patients I care for smile! It's often not easy for people to seek the help of a dentist; It's my job to make them feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible. The relationships that I have formed with my patients are very special… my patients are like my family.  If I am able to help an apprehensive patient who is withdrawn and sad, transform into a patient who is relaxed, outgoing, and happy as they move toward dental heath, that is a measure of my success.  The patient's triumph feels like my triumph…makes me tear up when I think about it.
